Experienced and Effective Representation
for All Types of Litigation
- Appellate Advocacy: A strong litigation team includes an appellate attorney assisting trial attorneys throughout all phases of a case. VLRH is fortunate to have on staff Nick Dominguez, an appellate specialist who is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In the trial court, our appellate services include reviewing an opposing party’s pleadings for defects, drafting dispositive motions, assisting in discovery disputes, preparing the jury charge, and handling post-verdict filings. Our appellate practice also includes traditional appellate services such as handling mandamus proceedings and direct appeals. While most of our appellate services are provided to in-house clients, we have assisted outside litigators and clients with litigation-support and appellate services.
Commercial Litigation: Through the years, businesses and individuals have trusted VLRH to handle commercial litigation matters in contractual disputes involving banks, financial-service companies, and professional associations. Our attorneys have also handled oil and gas royalty actions. VLRH blends the legal know-how in such areas with lawyers who have tried dozens of cases to verdict.
Construction Defect: A defect in the design or construction of a project can often lead to problems, including failure that may result in personal injury or property damage. When this happens, everyone involved in every stage of the project can be forced into costly, multi-party litigation. Construction professionals, from a material supplier to the general contractor, can confidently turn to VLRH for knowledgeable and experienced representation in these matters. In addition to the contractors and their subs, our litigators also represent licensed professionals, including members of the design team such as architects and engineers, against these negligence claims.
Healthcare: Doctors, dentists, podiatrists, nurses and hospitals can count on VLRH to represent them in an ever-changing legal environment. Healthcare providers today face traditional medical malpractice claims and also new liability risks from growing regulations. Tamara L. Rodriguez, a VLRH partner with an L.L.M. in Healthcare Law from Loyola University Chicago, defends healthcare providers against medical malpractice claims, medical board proceedings, qui tam or False Claims Act suits, and recoupment actions.
Immigration: We provide immigration services to individuals with different multicultural backgrounds and corporate clients in a variety of immigration matters, such as family petitions, adjustment of status, employment-based petitions, investor visas, citizenship, DACA/Dream Act, Waivers, H-2B visas, work permits, and deportation cases.
Insurance: Whether it means providing a defense for an insured driver, physician, property-owner, or transportation company or representing an insurance carrier, agent, or adjuster who has been sued, the attorneys at VLRH are a trusted resource for several insurance companies when they are faced with third-party or first-party claims. Our first party practice includes representation of insurance companies that are targeted with contractual, bad-faith, and statutory claims. First party claims typically arise from automobile accidents and property-damage claims after a natural disaster, such as a hurricane or hailstorm.
Premises Liability: Our premises-liability practice defends store owners in slip-and-fall cases, unlawful detention, and the many other claims that may be brought against a premises owner. One of our founding partners, Steven M. Vidaurri, has represented grocers and retailers in these types of suits for over twenty years. He and the other attorneys who practice in this area bring a common-sense approach to discovery and evaluation of the claim.
Transportation: Commercial transportation companies sued for personal injury and wrongful-death claims often turn to VLRH to provide a strong defense. We represent domestic and international trucking companies and truck drivers who haul all sorts of products: hazardous chemicals, petroleum products, produce, and dry freight. VLRH has also represented bus lines, including Greyhound Lines, Inc., in defending against catastrophic personal-injury claims brought by multiple claimants. Our litigators are familiar with the Texas Transportation Code, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, and other administrative rules that claimants use to fashion liability.
