Elizabeth M. Garcia
Elizabeth “Lisa” M. Garcia is originally from the Pharr/McAllen area and is an attorney with the law firm of Vidaurri, Lyde, Rodriguez & Haynes, L.L.P. in Edinburg, Texas. She assists clients with litigation in the area as well as other high risk areas of South Texas. She gained special insight and experience in trial work through her experience as an Assistant District Attorney in Edinburg, Texas, an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas, and a Briefing Attorney for the Court of Appeals for the Second District of Texas. She also spent several years serving as legal counsel for the State Comptroller of Public Accounts and as a private municipal bond attorney in Austin, Texas.
She is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Texas. Elizabeth earned her JD from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas in 1992. She earned a B.B.A. in Finance and International Business from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Hidalgo County Bar Association, and has served in active chair or leadership roles in both organizations. She is a past president of the Hispanic Bar Association of Austin, and was a member of the Travis County Bar Association, the Austin Young Lawyers Association, and Travis County Women's Bar Association. She was active in all organizations and served as a student mentor for several levels of students and was honored with the Award for Contribution to Minority Community Award.
She is currently a board member of theTexas RioGrande Legal Aid, Inc. (TLRA), has also provided pro bono assistance to Volunteer Legal Services of Texas (VLS) and served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Children. She served on the committee on Public Trust and Confidence in the Courts for the Supreme Court of Texas in 1999.
